2015 Personal Theme: Minimalism

November 20, 2014

As the end of the year draws close, it’s about time to start thinking ahead and planning the coming year. Never too early to plan, yeah?

So as part of the planning process, I thought it prudent to find a running idea or theme to guide my decisions and actions for the whole of 2015. The idea struck me earlier as I was browsing the different 2015 planners at National Bookstore.

This early, there are but limited types of planners available. Only the run-of-the-mill executive types and those tiny datebooks. Seeing as I have 2 hardly used 2014 planners, I decided to forego having a fancy schmancy planner for 2015. I decided to just buy a cheap datebook (later when they have more designs to choose from) where I could just write down the events and occassions, maybe some book and movie releases too. Basing from my past planner usage, the tiny spaces on the datebook oughtta be sufficient.

And that was when it struck me, that I am in dire need of some minimalism and decluttering in my life. So why not let the principle guide me throughout the year (at the very least), right? It’s a damn good idea, and I know it. 😉

How about you, what’s your personal theme for 2015? 🙂

  1. An arbitrary theme does seem better than a list of resolutions. I like this idea.

Will think of what my theme will be for 2015. Right now, I’m thinking “authenticity”. No white lies, less filtering, less sugar coating, radical honesty, mostly to myself.

    1. That’s a good idea. I always find it much better to be direct and brutally honest than meandering and sugarcoating not-so-nice stuff. Gives you a thicker hide too, in my experience.

  2. That is a nice theme! My 2014 theme was Dreamcatcher. I still don’t know what I’m going to anchor on for next year. Thanks for reminding me to reflect.

And oh, by the way, I finished Legend and I get kilig by Day and June. I like the storyline more although I think the story is kind of short and not so much has been happening. I’m on the first few pages of Prodigy.

    1. Ooh, glad you liked the book, somehow. 🙂 It’s not as raw as The Hunger Games, but there’s a certain polish to the story as a whole which THG kind of lacked for me. And I liked its ending much better too. 😉

I’ll look forward to your post about your 2015 theme. It did cross my mind that you had a 2014 theme that I read before, and this is just like that. 🙂

  3. I am still undecided for what my theme will be this 2015. But I am gearing towards being brave and taking chances. So far, this year, I was not so consistent with regards to being brave. 🙂

  4. I bought my 2015 planner last month! Talk about being way too early for planner shopping. I got another Peanuts Moleskine planner, just like the one I have for this year, only bigger. I’ve written on practically every inch of my planner so I figured I had to upsize the next one.

I’m also working on minimalism and I’ve already started on my blog. I’ve decided to cancel my annual theme framework subscription and I switched to a simpler, more uncluttered one. But my 2015 theme would have to be patience. I’m up for knee surgery (for my right knee) on December 1st and will have the second surgery for my left knee around August next year. That will be a year to a year and a half of rigorous rehabilitation so that I could walk again. It will be a year or two before I could run and even jump. I would really have to be patient through all of the physical therapy and work outs, not mentioning having to endure the pain of recovery. It’s actually very minimalist to do away with a list of resolutions and to simply stick to one guiding theme for the year.

    1. Whoa, that would indeed take a lot of patience. Have you stopped working because of that or something? I mean, you implied that you couldn’t walk, so going to and from your work place oughtta be quite taxing for your condition. I hope and pray you get better the soonest possible. 🙂

  5. I want to be a minimalist someday! HIndi pa lang ako masyado seryoso kaya hindi pa sya ang perosnal theme ko this year. But I really love the idea and practice of simple living and having few but better things. 🙂
