And because I cannot wait for that day when I finally get my own Kindle (yes, sometime between last night and the moment I am typing this I have decided to go for Amazon’s e-reader), I decided to download Kindle for PC just to give me a “feel” of what might soon be a system I will be completely immersing into.

So yeah, aside from the three classics that were already in there when I run and opened the program, I have already downloaded five e-books from Free Ebooks for Kindle. 😀 Excited much?

Funny thing, I actually saw a hardbound sale copy of Caught by Harlan Coben the other day in National Bookstore and was contemplating whether to buy it or not. In the end I didn’t simply because I did not want the additional clutter it would eventually become after I finished it. And now, I got a copy and for free to boot! 😀

Still, despite downloading books I actually do want to read, I do not think I’ll be reading all that much right now anyway. Well, not in here in my laptop. Yes, you guessed it. Eyestrain.

Basically I just downloaded them all for the heck of it, to see if Kindle actually does work and to tinker with its system to see if it actually suits my needs or if I am simply deluding myself into thinking I need it. And now the million-dollar question is, do I see myself making good use of the Kindle system, the whole kit and caboodle? And the answer is a big, resounding YES!

Aside from the already eye-friendly e-Ink, the option to adjust the fonts, spacing, brightness and color scheme oughtta make reading an all the more convenient and enjoyable activity for me. The bookmarking, annotation and other extra features are just bonuses. I really did miss reading and having an e-reader and an almost unlimited source of free e-books via the web is just too good an opportunity to pass up. And not having to deal with the clutter afterwards is something my mother could appreciate as well. 😉

  1. Hi Nathalie! Thanks for visiting 🙂
Anyway, I own a Kindle and I’d have to say.. It’s really worth it! Although I miss reading “real” books once in a while. And you don’t have to worry about eye strain. The Kindle doesn’t give me that (the way my IPad, iPhone or laptop give me an eyestrain). It’s really just like reading a book.
I actually published a short entry about my Kindle. I don’t know if you’ve seen it in my blog.
Here is the link to the entry 🙂

    1. Oooh, I just read your entry about it and it just made me all the more excited to get myself one! 😀 My eyesight’s already pretty bad that’s why I wanted an e-Ink reader (like the Kindle or Nook) so there’d be little eyestrain to worry about despite my voracious reading tendencies. I promise I’m getting one even before my birthday as soon as I settle my more immediate needs! And it seems we have a similar taste in reading materials, dunno if you noticed but the first 3 e-books I downloaded were Stieg Larsson’s Millenium series. 🙂

    1. e-Ink readers are supposedly just like “real” books so there is minimal eyestrain. That’s why I want one. And because I have no more extra space for books in here. 😉

  2. I dunno. Once they fix the whole “I like the smell of books” problem that I have against tabs and e-books then I don’t think I would be doing any e-book reading though I do have some in my lappie…I just prefer flipping paper pages I guess. But hey, we can’t resist change.

  3. Yay, gadget! 🙂 I used to have hundreds of iPad books before… but something went wrong when I connected it to a new computer. 🙁

    1. That’s sad. What happened? 🙁 I used to have lots of e-books too back when I was using a smartphone, but eyestrain was really hard on me. Reading on such a tiny screen can be the pits. 😛

  4. I’m so happy you got a kindle! And I’m really excited to learn that you love reading too. I’m in love with books. I read everything! It’s interesting that I’ve had my kindle for so long now but I haven’t used the Kindle for PC software. I use a different software to download books from laptop to computer. It’s called Calibre. I think the reason why I use this and not the Kindle or PC software is because I have never bought a single ebook in my life. Not in Amazon or anywhere. Being a book addict I usually find books for free in the internet. You just have to know where and then convert it to .MOBI using calibre so it’ll be compatible with the kindle. Try 4shared.com. There are lots of ebooks there. HTH!

    1. I only have the Kindle for PC software (here on my laptop) for now sis, not the actual Kindle e-reader. 😉 Haha. But yeah, Kindle just rekindled (pun intended) my love for reading. In fact, without meaning to, I stayed up all night last night just to finish The Lost Symbol. And that’s here on my laptop! Eyestrain much? 😛

Thanks for the tip btw, I didn’t know there are e-books on 4shared. I usually just get music from there. 😀

  5. i load my ebooks in my ipod touch and im loving the new experience! to fight off the eyestrain from the glare, i put a matte screen protector on it and dim the backlight every time i read. works well for me. in fact, ebook has given me a totally new adventure which at first i tried rejecting, too. i welcome the technology so much. i can’t believe i can now bring with me as much books as i can in just one pocket sized gadget and read any time, anywhere! even in the dark! in fact, i feel a little sad and guilty that i really don’t miss books that much at all.
