cappuccino showdown

These days, having a cup of cappuccino does not require going to the nearest coffee shop anymore. If you’re not finicky about your caffeine fix, or just feeling plain too lazy to go out, there’s no need to fret. Instant cappuccino mixes are now available, hallelujah! 😀

So here’s my take on the two most popular brands in the market: Kopiko Kopiccino vs. Nescafe Cappuccino.

Caffeine Fix

Which of the two gives a stronger jolt? Both are not espresso-based so don’t expect too much and you’ll be alright. However, Kopiko has a slightly stronger coffee taste of the two, so this round goes to Kopiko Kopiccino.

Taste

Kopiko requires 150 mL of hot water and is a bit sweeter than your usual cappuccino even without the choco granules. On the other hand, Nescafe is a quite bland even if I use less than the required 200 mL of hot water. You can always add a little more water if you find your coffee too sweet, but there’s less that can be done if it’s too bland so this round again goes to Kopiko Kopiccino.

Foam

Kopiko’s foam is thinner and dissolves a bit faster of the two. On the other hand, Nescafe may have a bit more foam but it has a tendency to sorta congeal and leave lumpy residues on the inside of the mug. I’d still take them both though, so this round is a draw.

Price

They both have an SRP of P8 (usually even lower at the grocery) so this is a draw.

Availability

So far I have seen them both at the supermarkets so again this is a draw.

Overall

Between the two, Kopiko Kopiccino is my bet. Slightly too sweet for my everyday caffeine fix (though that can be remedied by adding more water), but really hits the sweet spot (pun intended) when I’m looking for a sugar rush as well. Nescafe Cappuccino is a bit too bland for my taste; I kinda feel like I am wasting money drinking foamed and colored hot water.

How about you, which do you prefer? 🙂

  1. Kopiko for me too. I first discovered it back when I was still working the night shift. Sarap! Plus may choco granules pa. I believe they were the first to come up with that concept. Sumunod na ibang brands afterwards.

    1. On caffeine abstinence sis? 🙂 I don’t think I can go long without coffee. The longest I went without was back when I was pregnant, and that was because my OB forbade it because of the baby.

  3. Yes I’m no coffee-drinker but I used to be and I have tried (at least had a sip or two of) both so I’ll share my take on this and guess what? Kopiko won the showdown for me too! Agree with everything that you said in the post. And hubby thinks the same so.. 🙂
