Funny story incoming!
But first, let me lay out a little bit of context:
- Our wedding anniversary’s coming up and we always give each other a gift, which we try to keep a surprise from the other.
- We are both currently obsessed with Dungeon Crawler Carl (and Princess Donut too, needless to say!).
My gift…
…a signed copy of A Parade of Horribles, the soon-to-be-released 8th book of the DCC series. I pre-ordered it some weeks ago. I prefer the ebooks while he loves the audiobooks, but we both agree that signed books are nice to collect. Especially since we both love this series, which is rare since he doesn’t really read as much these days.
But then, I was forced to spoil my surprise a little while ago when I saw him looking for signed DCC books. Shit. So just in case he was planning to buy, I just told him that I was giving him the signed book. 🤦🏻♀️ Oh well.
His gift…
And just earlier today, it was his turn to have his gift revealed well ahead of schedule. 🤭 See, I wanted that Maeve x DCC Virgin Dirty Shirley chocolate since I first saw it on social media. But then they were not readily available anywhere near and I loath paying for shipping if it costs as much as one bar of chocolate already when I just wanted to try it anyway. Until I saw that the local bookshop (which is literally just a block away from us and which we passed by yesterday on our way to pick up part of our dinner) posted that they have the chocolates! 🤩
So I hurriedly sent him a screenshot and asked him to drop by there on his way home from work and see if they still have any left. His reply? A screenshot of his Maeve order confirmation and an annoyed quip that now I know what he’s giving me for our anniversary. 🤣
When I got home, he showed me the box of chocolates (he got me a half dozen!) and gave me a bar in advance since I was so damn excited about it. Honestly, chocolate never tasted so sweet! 🥰
So there went our gifts–the element of surprise gone, yet all the sweeter because they’re presents that are borne of our mutual interest. And speaking of, we are wearing another matching set of Princess Donut shirts on our anniversary. 😻
