For someone not all that fond of movies, I have somehow managed to watched my whole year’s quota in just a couple of months. So, how many movies did I watch on the big screen? A grand total of (drumroll please!) three! πŸ˜› Told you I’m not a movie person. πŸ˜‰

So this is just a quick run-down and not by any means a comprehensive review (not that I even do those in the first place)Β of the said movies. Bear with me. First up:

OzOz the Great and Powerful –Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

This is the first movie I ever watched with the whole family (yes, including Francine). What? We really are not a movie-watching kind of people, didn’t I say that? Oh well. Anywho. I decided to watch this with the whole family at my colleague’s urging–apparently, even her hyperactive daughter managed to sit out and enjoy the whole movie. I figured Francine might enjoy it as well, so there. So was it as good as what she said? Well, the graphics are lush and (the Wizard of) Oz’s back story is actually interesting. The main characters in the original The Wizard of Oz story were also subtly introduced. James Franco was okay at his role as a con-man-reluctantly-turned-hero and his smarmy grin was annoying to the point of being endearing (does that even make sense?). Mila Kunis portrayed Theodora just aboutΒ perfectly. She effortlessly went from naive to besotted to betrayed to terrifying as the neutral-turned-evil witch. On the other hand, Rachel Weisz was not as convincing as an evil witch. She gave Evanora a befitting regal presence as the initial plot requires, but kinda failed when the witch’s true colors showed. She just didn’t cut it as evil, period. Michelle Williams made a really pretty Glinda (which Mama commented on several times during the movie) though I found her a bit too pa-cute for a witch, even a good one. πŸ˜› All in all, I liked it. It was a good movie, but not what I’d call great.

OblivionOblivion –Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

I watched this, again, at Grace’s recommendation. Hmmm.. gullible much? πŸ˜› Anywho. I neither liked nor disliked this. The special effects and action sequences were great, yes, but as whole the movie didn’t leave a strong impression with me. In fact, I’m kinda disappointed that I was able to predict a couple of revelations toward the end. Oh, but one thing did make an impression: Olga Kurylenko, who played Julia, is hot. πŸ˜€

Iron Man 3Iron Man 3 –Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Now this was an unplanned first date with Tony Stark (I did not watch the first two Iron Man movies). He is quite hot for an older guy, don’t you think? πŸ˜‰ Anywho, despite being almost ignorant about the Iron Man universe, having seen him only in The Avengers, I truly enjoyed this movie. Comparing it to books (because I am a certified geek/nerd), it is much like a stand-alone novel despite being part of a series. The movie has a story in itself apparently independent of its predecessors. I love thatΒ I did not feel like I missed anything just because I have not watched the first two movies. Β In fact, I liked it so much that I downloaded and watched the two right after. πŸ˜€ But Iron Man 3 is still the best of the three in my humble opinion. Yeah, even if I guessed correctly that (spoiler alert!)Β Pepper would not die when she fell down to the fire and save Tony’s ass when the villain is all but about to annihilate him. πŸ˜‰

  1. I was a big movie buff back in college, watching films on the big screen almost every week! Haha.. But now, it’s been so long since my last trip to the cinemas… Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts about these movies. I’m planning to watch Iron Man 3 (yeah, i still haven’t watched it yet.. i know, i’m a loser >.<) and you somehow helped me fight against my doubts that it isn't worth watching on the big screen.

  2. I did enjoyed Oz, but not so much with Iron Man 3 though I’m a big fan of Downey, hindi ko alam yung nangyare kay Pepper, forever na siyang may powers? XP
Di ko alam -_- mas gusto ko po lang siguro yung Sherlock Holmes, kaso di ko pa nababasa yung novels nun πŸ™

    1. Pepper was “cured” as well as Tony Stark. That is, he had the shrapnel removed from his chest and consequently the arc reactor. At least that’s what I understood from the last few scenes. πŸ˜›
