Having a kid who learns quickly is a double-edged sword. On the bright side, uh, that’s pretty much self-explanatory, right? 😛 On the other hand, a kid could just as easily pick up some unsavory things too.
Case in point, my twenty-month-old daughter. She’s our family’s pride and joy. At her age, she already knows almost all of our neighbors’ names, where they live, how one is related to the other. When we go to our relatives in Taal, she points out whose house we’re passing while going from one relative to another. She already knows how to unlock my smartphone, go to the right home screen, choose the right folder and open her beloved mumu app (Temple Run 2 in case you’re wondering). She knows Vice Ganda, Rebecca/Serena from Apoy sa Dagat, Margaux and Celine from Ina Kapatid Anak and can recognize KC Concepcion on her Instagram photos. All good, right?
Just the other morning, she came across a prayer-book with a crucified Jesus on the cover. She stared at it intently, then turned to me and said, “Mommy, Jesus hubo. Kita pepe.” I was like 😮 Now where the hell did that come from? I’m pretty sure no one taught her that–that is most definitely not something you teach a toddler, not at this household anyway. I can only surmise that she put it together herself in all innocence, since Jesus was barely clothed on the cross after all and she knows what hubad and hubo means from bath and CR duties, respectively. Still, rational explanation aside, it was still quite jarring, especially since she isn’t even two years old at the moment. 😐
These days, people cuss significantly less at home after one time that my father uttered a cuss word and she parroted it right the moment after. When we heard her, we were like, uh-oh. 😮 Needless to say, that was quite a lesson for us. I guess with kids like her, you really have to be even more careful than usual in exposing her to the world. You never know what she might pick up, even accidentally.
Bibo si Francine! 🙂 She’s growing soooo fast.
LOL at “Mommy, Jesus hubo. Kita pepe.” Magkakasundo kami. 😀
Maybe a bit too fast, as that comment suggests? 😛 Initial shock aside, I had a good laugh about that after. 😀
Yeah, mukha ngang magkakasundo kayo. 😀

hahaha!!! Well that’s what you can’t take away from kids. Their blunt honesty. One time when I was with my cousin riding a jeep, a “plump” lady sat in front of us and she was like, ang taba niya. I didn’t teach her that, but of course, I had to shush her, I didn’t want the lady to think I was teaching my niece to be disrespectful, but what can I say, kids are really REAAALLY honest. haha!

Yeah well, candor works for kids. 😉 It’s one thing we gotta treasure while they aren’t yet jaded, even if it does embarass us from time to time. Kids, no matter how impressionable, still have minds of their own after all. 🙂
Natuwa naman ako sa comment ng little angel mo. I’ve heard some kids say outrageous things. Sometimes it’s amusing, and meron ding times na scary XD But yes, we need to be careful nga around kids ’cause they easily pick up words and phrases and might use them loosely.
Outrageous indeed. They’re really like sponges, they absorb everything indiscriminately so it’s up to us adults to make sure they’re not exposed to vile stuff. Scary thought. XD
You have a logical child! She pieced things together and came up with that one. I understand how jarring it might have been but kids say the funniest things. 😀
Yeah, kids really do say the darnedest things. 😀 But still, they do tell the truth as they see it. 😉 Thanks for visiting Maita! 🙂
