Mothers Day PolaroidThis photo was taken last Mother’s Day, right after we woke up. You could say it was a pretty nice way to start off the day, cuddling and tickling and taking wacky selfies in bed. 🙂

Anywho. I was not nearly as active blogging these days as I was last month. Got some new stuff to think up and follow through, plus catching up on my reading non-fiction books for a change (currently reading and digesting Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich!). And of course, constantly striving to better myself as mother to my precocious toddler. Not easy, especially since she’s got a quick mind and even quicker mouth which, more often than not, causes friction between us. Both of us are growing up, I guess. 😉

Speaking of growing up. We just got her school stuff the other week. First up: school shoes. I have been canvassing these past few weeks and it was a bit frustrating because most girls’ school shoes have a narrow toe box which would pinch Francine’s wide toes. I found a couple from Florsheim before, but when we went last week I was happy to discover that there were more from other brands as well. Since the school girl herself was cranky and wouldn’t pick a style she wants, I chose this pair of cute Mary Janes with scalloped edges and butterfly design from Sugar Kids:

Sugar Kids Mary Janes But, stubborn girl wouldn’t try on the shoes! She was kicking and practically screaming as I tried unsuccessfully to put shoes on her foot. But she allowed the SA to put it on her. Tsk. Nang-aasar? 😛 Anywho, these only cost P349. Not bad, since she grows pretty fast and might need bigger shoes before the school year ends anyway. Assuming of course that she doesn’t wear this out too fast–she’ll be wearing it everyday after all. We’ll find out later.

We also got her a school bag. She has five books and seven notebooks plus other supplies, so we thought it prudent to get her trolley so she wouldn’t strain her back with a backpack or messenger bag. Here it is:Disney Princess trolleyFunny thing is, this isn’t really her choice. She wanted a similar pink-and-black trolley, but it didn’t look sturdy enough to withstand her heavy hands so I had her choose another. But she wouldn’t let of the bag she wanted. Seriously. Practically all the SA’s in the bag department were already lined up by then with all these other bags for her to choose from and she just wouldn’t, My God. In the end we had to trick her into rolling this one to the counter so I could pay before she discovers her mother’s duplicity and raise a bloody ruckus. 😛 Thankfully, she didn’t look back as I handed her the bag after paying and we finally strolled out of the department store in peace.

I bought her notebooks, pencils, eraser and crayons as well. I got twistable crayons since traditional ones inevitably break under her enthusiastic efforts at doodling. 😉Crayola Twistable CrayonsWhat else? Oh yeah, I remember. Her notebooks are to be of a specific color for each subject. I had to look for a brand with plain colored covers with all the colors needed. You know, for the sake of consistency. I know, I know, I could have just bought any notebook and covered it with colored paper. But I’m glad I didn’t go to all that trouble because I did find exactly what I was looking for. Okay, so there was none with a white cover so I got another in pink and would just cover it with bond paper.

I also made notebook labels, though not Frozen-themed like the name labels I did before. 😛 Lookie:notebook labelsThe font color indicates the subject’s assigned color. Still not sure about the design so I’m not printing them out yet. What do you think?

Are you done with school shopping list yet? 🙂

    1. Haha. I’m probably just fussing more than the usual parent since it’s our first time to send her off to school. 😉 And it just so happens I like designing stuff that’s why I made such maarte labels. I’m pretty sure a quick scribble of the subject on the notebook cover would suffice as well.

      1. Hahaha, I was referring to the color coding. Is it maybe because children are expected not to know how to read yet?

Teacher: Kids, pull out your blue notebook.

    1. I know, right? Would have saved a lot of parents money, not having to buy a new set after only several colors are broken while the rest are still okay. Nagdodoble tuloy yung ibang colors. 😛

  1. aw. Francine is really ready for school but it seems like her Momma is more excited than her 🙂 Cool crayons Ate N.! 😀 how i wish it was invented when I was in graders, i use to own really big crayons, like the size of a Pilot marker 😛

    1. You got that right sis, it would seem I am more excited than the school girl herself. 😛 Haha. I remember those jumbo crayons. Never got them though, since I was already in the upper grade levels when they came out.

  2. Amazing finds, particularly the shoes and twistable crayons! Kinabahan naman ako na baka mahirap hanapan ng shoes ang baby girl ko in the future haha. Ang daya ha, bakit walang twistable crayons back in early 90’s? Haha!

    1. That seems to be the general reaction so far.. Why were those twistable crayons invented too late (for us)? 😀 Naku, on the contrary there’d probably be even more choices for your little one. Mas mahihirapan ka pumili kesa maghanap. 🙂

  3. Awww big girl na your baby sis! I remember those days when I get too excited to buy school stuff at National Bookstore. I hope Francine will enjoy her time in school and meet new friends 🙂

    1. Thanks Jacqueline! 🙂 I sure hope she enjoys school too. I’ve been psyching her about it, but the external motivation can only do so much. I am so looking forward to her making friends with her classmates too. 🙂

    1. Mary Janes are pretty common school shoes, especially for elementary and younger kids. 😉 I also wore MJs intermittently until high school.
