Sunsets are the epitome of graceful exits.
They’re a constant reminder that there is beauty even in endings.

One 48 Photos participant remarked that it would be challenging to shoot a sunset if you’re nowhere near a bay or beach, and I concede that she has a good point. That also got me thinking, how can I produce a beautiful sunset photo when I’m in the middle of the city? The thought that I need a body of water nearby for the shot made me want to prove that I can take a good sunset photo, water or no. I didn’t have my camera with me so I can’t just go off gallivanting to wherever just to shoot. So as soon as I got home yesterday, I got out my camera and immediately looked for a way I could capture the sunset in a less than mediocre way. The light was fading fast so I didn’t have the luxury of thinking through the meager options I had. In the end, I settled for a silhouette shot of the plants outside against the sunset. And so here now is my best shot. Hope you like it. 🙂
.
P.S. I decided to change my signature for photography-related posts into that above. What do you think? Like it, hate it, doesn’t matter? Lemme know what you think. 🙂
P.P.S. I love tinkering around with Photoshop settings so I made a slightly more somber version of my sunset photo. Which do you like better? Here ya go:
Love the new siggy. 😉
Thanks sis! 🙂 Took me a while to get it to look the way I wanted it to.
really like the sharpness of the edges of the leaves. Galing! 🙂
Photoshop helped. 😉
When will I have the time to meet Mr. Photoshop? Haha! 🙂
He’s an elusive one. Pasuyo. You have to make time for him if you want to make it work between the two of you. 😉 Lol!
Haha
and the sunset photo as well.
Thanks! 🙂
Lovely photo! The silhouette adds charm. 🙂
Thanks Jean! The plants were the most interesting accents I could find on short notice. 🙂
nice photo! hope someday you can shoot my models!! 🙂
Thanks! 🙂 If you happen to be in Batangas, please do let me know. We could work something out for a shoot. I would love to do portraits again. It’s been so long since I worked with any models, it would be a chance to brush up on my probably rusting portraiture skills. 😉
I love the mix of blues and oranges and silhouettes! Beautiful!
*blushes* Thanks Kim! 🙂
Awesome shot!!!! Now, I’m challenged! Hehe. Hope I have great skills like yours!
Awww, thanks Rikx! 🙂
I like the first one Nathalie! Gusto ko yung ganung blue, buhay na buhay! Perfect din ang puwesto ng tall plant, nasapawan ang epal na electric wires ng Meralco! Nice shot! 🙂
Thanks much nanaystrip! 🙂 Nasaktuhan nga ng angle nun plant yung Meralco lines. Hehe.
It’s so beautiful, look at all the colors. It looks like it was painted on, galing!
Thanks Mimi! 🙂 Photoshop really helped correct and enhance the photo I took. DSLR it may be, but still cameras are far from infallible and don’t always capture what it is that my eyes actually see. For that, I rely on post-processing to coax the real image to come out. 😉
Wow. Breathtaking sunset shot!
Thanks Mitz! 🙂
Will you look at that! Beautiful sunset shot and you’ve proven yourself correct that you don’t need a bay or mountain view. You have the eye!

Judging from the overwhelming feedback I got from you girls here, I guess I did do a nice enough job proving I don’t need a bay or mountain view for sunset shots. 😉 Thanks Maita! 🙂
This left me in utter amazement. It’s hard to take sunset photos in the city nga because of the electricity lines but wow. These photos are just wow!!!
Wow. Never expected a reaction like that, but a big BIG thanks Camille! 😀
Either photo — both are just SO AMAZING! I envy that you know how to read your camera… You’re able to state what shutter speed, aperture, focal length and ISO you used. Cos even if I can take pictures, I still haven’t figured out how to read my camera, haha! See you again next week!
Thanks Peachy! 🙂 I’ll let you in on a secret… You can view all those *complicated* settings on your PC. Just look at the Properties of your photo, click on Advanced and there they are! 😀
haha, ganun lang ba? I’ll try to check it nga. Thank you so much Nathalie! See you on Friday.
wow! ganda ng shot na to sis! love it! 🙂
Thanks sis! 🙂
DId you see my madaya photo for this week? Haha! I love your photo. I think the vibrant color in the first one suits the shot better. 🙂
Thanks Patty! 🙂 Yeah, I saw it though I haven’t gotten around to commenting to some of the Week 3 entries yet. Sorry for that.
Heehee ok lang yun! :p
Now, I see it. The sun actually has rays.
It’s part planning and mostly luck being able to actually capture those elusive rays in photos. Well, in my case at least. 😉
I like the somber version better sis! 🙂
